Weekend Recap for June 16/17

This weekend was filled with firsts for the 728 Cadets. Saturday morning was an early start but that is how this goes. The buses took us on the trip to Owatonna and the day began as expected.

OWATONNA
Owatonna crowds were great and large as usual. We gave them a great exciting show that really was well received. We did the 3 shows in the play areas with the final being judged.

The awards went really well with the following being the result for the day.

71.0 KMS (Marching & Maneuvering, Horn Line & Drum Major)
64.4 NRHEG
64.0 Henry Sibley (Drumline)
63.0 Maple Grove

AA
80.3 – 728 Cadets (Marching & Maneuvering, Drumline, Color Guard, Horn Line & Drum Major)
75.5 Osseo73.3 Milaca

AAA
81.9 Mankato Lancers / Grand Champion (Marching & Maneuvering, Drumline, Color Guard, Horn Line & Drum Major)
80.1 Waconia
77.25 Alexandria
74.9 The Patriots

Exhibition – Owatonna

Grand Champion – Mankato 77 Lancers
Peoples Choice – 728 Cadets

To say we were surprised with the awards is an understatement. This was our first award ceremony that we have captured this kind of result. Also to win the Peoples Choice award was and award that we really have worked for.

WACONIA
We arrived at our staging location and it started with some drama from a special needs resident. That kinda set us back a bit and took some focus away from preparation. The parade officials along with local Police did handle the situation and we appreciate their support.

The parade was picture perfect, cool evening, sunny and great cheering crowds who made us feel welcome to Waconia. Our performance was on point and scored similar to the earlier Owatonna show.
The awards were quite a bit different as we did not place as well but we still came in 3rd overall -  the complete scores are below.
A
74.0 – Winona Cotter (Percussion, Color Guard, Woodwinds)
59.55 – Richfield
56.3 – Dassel-Cokato
57.55 – 212 Regiment

AA
74.35 – Litchfield (Percussion, Color Guard, Woodwinds)
71.6 – Sauk Rapids
65.4 – Maple Grove
65.0 – Henry Sibley

AAA
81.1 – Mankato Lancers (Color Guard, Woodwinds)
80.75 – Park Center (Percussion)
79.3 – 728 Cadets
75.3 – Owatonna
74.9 – St. Cloud

People’s Choice:  Mankato Lancers
Grand Champion:  Mankato Lancers
Owatonia Trophy:  Mankato Lancers

This result shows an opportunity for improvement and focus, but we certainly are grateful that we have the kids and the director team to get us back into the top ranks at the award ceremonies.

HUTCHINSON
Another new parade was the Hutchinson Water Carnival parade. With plenty of competing bands this is a 2.2 mile parade through downtown Hutch. More big crowds and fun.

Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate because the rain and lightning was enough to cancel the band competition. Too bad because we were ready to drop the hammer for everyone to experience.
