About 728 Cadets

The 728 Cadets, Inc. is a 503 (c) (3) non‐profit organization and was established August 18, 2008. It serves the students enrolled in District 728 schools or home schooled within the district boundaries. Summer street marching, winter drumline, winter guard, and winter winds performance education programs are offered. Students are provided the opportunity to learn and compete in the marching arts, showcasing their skills in music, performance, marching techniques, theatre and dance.

The mission of the Cadets organization is to teach students life lessons and pursue excellence in the ultimate sport of music in motion, so that young adults experience enjoyment while combining the best of athletics and the arts.

Our Purpose:

  • To provide musical and marching training while promoting an attitude of pride, spirit and teamwork.

  • To provide for all interested ISD 728 students a challenging, yet rewarding marching arts experience in a safe and positive environment.

  • To represent ISD 728 with excellence in the greater Minnesota area and beyond at the national level.

  • To gain a lifelong appreciation for music and performance.

The Cadet organization supports four separate student performance groups:

Summer Season (April through July)

728 Cadets Marching Band

Summer marching band participating in both competitive and performance parades throughout MN during the summer months. Member performance opportunities include:

  • Woodwind or brass band instruments

  • Percussion instruments

  • Color guard

  • Honor Guard

Winter Season (October through April)

River Valley Percussion Theatre (RVPT)

Drumline performance group that combines routines of movement, drill and choreography while playing music. Member performance opportunities include:

  • Battery – drums (snares, tenors, basses, etc.) and cymbals

  • Pit – mallet instruments (marimbas, vibraphones, etc.), keyboards, synthesizers, and others.

River Valley Winter Guard (RVWG)

Performance group that combines routines of movement, drill and choreography to recorded music while handling mock rifles, flags, sabers and other equipment.

River Valley Sound (RVS)

Hornline performance group that combines routines of movement, drill and choreography while playing music. Member performance opportunities include:

  • Woodwind or brass band instruments

  • Percussion

A Cadet is defined through action not intention; they work hard, play hard and rest easy. They are generous, kind, determined and proud of who they are. Uniform or no uniform, they remain a Cadet.
