What is SafeSport Training and why do I need to complete it?

RVS, RVPT, and RVSG are registered with the Winter Guard International (WGI) organization.

It is WGI's policy that all adult supervisors must complete the “SafeSport™ Trained” Abuse Prevention courses before working with participants. WGI defines adult supervisors as “adults in a group’s managerial, instructional, design, creative, or volunteer team who spend considerable amounts of time with the group or have a short-term interaction with the group. Considerable is defined as a weekly in-person interaction with performers and short term is defined as two (2) total hours or more per season of in-person interaction.” There is a small registration fee associated with the SafeSport Training.  To request reimbursement of the fee, please complete the Reimbursement Request form.

Why do I need to have a background check completed?

Volunteer opportunities that require volunteers to work directly with students require adults to complete a background check.  An approved background check is valid for three calendar school years.  To request a background check, please complete a brief google form or contact us at 728cadetsmarchingband@gmail.com.

What does it mean to be a chaperone on a trip?

Acting as a chaperone for a trip with the 728 Cadets Marching Arts is a special privilege and responsibility. The care of our students and the trust of our families back home is paramount to our travels. The Directors strive to select chaperones from each school to officially be a part of the trip. Many factors are taken into account when selecting chaperones including the ages of students in each group, student/parent participation years, board of directors service, special skills (medical/first aid, trailer pulling, etc.) and other factors that may positively influence any given trip!  When chaperones are needed, an interest form will be shared with parents to indicate their interest in getting involved. Directors will then review those interested in serving as a chaperone and select the number of needed chaperones.  If you have any questions regarding chaperoning, please contact your student’s Director.

What should I wear when I volunteer?

Please wear a 728 Cadets, River Valley shirt, or a plain black shirt if you sign up to volunteer. We also ask that you wear nice jeans/shorts when you volunteer to help create a professional look for the organization. You may also be asked to wear lanyards at some events to help identify you as a volunteer.

Is there a code of conduct that I need to follow as a volunteer?

Yes, there is a code of conduct we ask you to follow.
